Invoke Flash Fill

Automatically recognize patterns in adjacent columns and fill the current column based on the detected pattern.

When to use it

Use when you need to quickly fill a column with data that follows a pattern from adjacent columns, such as extracting first names from full names or reformatting dates.

Pro tip

After typing the first example, press Ctrl+E to trigger Flash Fill. Excel will automatically fill the rest based on the pattern. You can also use Flash Fill by going to Data > Flash Fill.
