Move file by dragging with Shift

Hold Shift while dragging a file to move it to the drop location instead of copying.

When you want to move a file to a different folder or drive without copying.

Pro tip

This works in File Explorer and on the desktop. Combine with other modifiers like Ctrl to create shortcuts.
